Green Spine

The Honeywell Campus offers the potential for high quality open space to provide the framework for connecting the Old Mill Site core with the facilities at Belle Vue and the sports grounds north of Honeywell Lane.

Potential routes could include a new footbridge over the railway (though this would require site acquisition) or along the spine route at the east side of the campus.

The key objective would be to ensure college routes arrive at a central green spine from which orientation to all site uses at Honeywell (including the private residential development) could be given.

For the purposes of this illustration this green spine links Belle Vue to the west with the existing all weather pitch to the east. There is published evidence to show that residential values are enhanced by such a direct relationship with high quality open space (see Start with the Park - Cabe Publications 2005).

The green spine space can also act as an effective buffer between potentially incompatible adjacent site uses (eg. evening use of all weather pitch and high value residential use).

Green Spine - Housing Development

There are a number of potential housing development sites on this green spine approach. For the purposes of illustration, the capacity of a housing development at the Belle Vue end of the site has been tested using the TSY House Typologies - as illustrated in the gallery below.

The relationship with Huddersifield Road may also add value to the site development.
