Ben Prince
Ben Prince is a Principal Consultant working in Arup's specialist Utility and Energy Consulting team in Sheffield and providing expert advice on low capital procurement of utility connections, connection of on-site generation, CHP, renewable generation, rules associated with use of private networks, utility diversions and regulation.
Before joining Arup in 2007, Ben worked in the utilities sector, being employed by an electricity company, a global engineering company and a specialist electricity industry training provider. Ben's wide experience encompassing public and private utility systems, systems operation, health and safety and staff training endows him with an ability to interpret and explain the vagaries and peculiarities of the utility industry to audiences at all levels.
Ben has an interest and increasing professional involvement in the commercial aspects of procurement of connection infrastructure for developments of all scales and the mechanisms for successful incorporation of renewable generation. By comparing the aspirations and obligations of a particular developer alongside procurement options, suitable technologies and planning obligations, the choices available for utilities and sustainable energy procurement can be established and their costs evaluated. Clear explanation of the benefits and concerns associated with each option enables the developer to decide upon the most appropriate course of action.
