Career Summary

Over 30 years experience of water management and sustainability issues with 10 years as managing director of Weetwood. A strong interest in social housing and education having been chair of Chester and District Housing Trust and a trustee of Arnold School, Blackpool.

Main Area of Expertise

Working with development project teams to address:

  • flood risk management
  • sustainable drainage systems
  • water quality
  • water efficiency
  • infrastructure planning (foul and potable water)

in order to maximize the sustainable development potential of sites and compliance with the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Personal Statement

One of the 'core beliefs' of Weetwood, which was founded over 10 years ago, is the delivery of sustainable solutions which give due regard to social, economic and environmental considerations. This concept has underpinned our work ever since and the culture of the firm has, we hoped, permeated others with whom we work. We would hope to achieve the same result through the work of the panel.

My work focuses on the delivery of sustainable developments for the benefit of not only current but also future generations. As such, the design of adaption policies as well as risk management approaches features strongly in all our work. Embodying the principles of good water management and sustainability practice into the conceptual design of schemes helps provide for genuinely sustainable living through risk minimisation, reduced running costs and improved used of public open space, including the provision of increased biodiversity.

Our work has included contributions to best practice guidance covering integrated urban drainage and retrofitting surface water management as well as representing the RTPI on a national policy influencing group made up of representatives from other professional institutions (ICE, CIWEM, RIBA, RICS and the Landscape Institute).

Our head office typifies our commitment to sustainability, featuring rainwater harvesting and both ground and air source heat pumps.
