DDQ - Delivering Design Quality
Developing Excellence – 'The Sheffield Experience'; Thursday 8th October 2009, 1pm – 4pm; Howden House, Sheffield
The third of the Design South Yorkshire Network seminars is being hosted by Sheffield City Council

The afternoon will follow the usual format, starting with presentations by the hosts describing the evolution of the North Sheffield development process, using Shirecliffe as a model. Speakers will cover the development of neighbourhood strategies and masterplans, setting up a developer panel, the search for a developer, and establishing a Local Housing Company.

This will be followed by Faye Whiteoak who will give an explanation of how developers go about appraising and preparing proposals for a site, comment on how developers are responding to the current economic climate and the impact it is having on design, and some ideas on how local authorities can work constructively with developers to achieve high design quality.

Faye joined Gleeson Regeneration in 2006 as Development Manager, responsible for HMR projects within the East Lancashire and Oldham & Rochdale Pathfinders. In 2007 she was promoted to Head of Land for the North West region, a position which involves guiding schemes through the statutory and legal procedures involved in regeneration and development. To streamline the design process and improve the management of external consultants, Faye set up an in-house design department and became Group Design Director in 2008. Her division operates nationally and is responsible for every aspect of scheme design from inception through to completion. Faye is a qualified Architect and Masterplanner; she worked for a number of housing architects in London before returning to Manchester, where she led the Regeneration Team at PRP Architects.
